But I think they may remain under the shadow of the books. I hope the movies find their own place in the future. It is a testament to the quality of the films that ensured the BO was stable throughout. For example, a lot of success of GOT over the past 2 seasons is because the show has surpasses the source material, hence even book readers have a reason to watch. There really was not much need for the book fans to go see the movies every year or so.
HARRY POTTER DEATHLY HALLOWS PART 1 BOOK SERIES
The reason I say that the series should have lessened in success is because the story in its true form had been completed in 2007. HP movies all maintained an average of 900 million, and capped off with a stunning 1.3 billion. If you look at Hunger Games, Maze Runner, Divergent, Narnia movies or other such YA adaptions, all had decreasing BO figures. There was definitely more to the movies than the books themselves. Yes, I would agree that HP is in its own league, with MCU a distant second. What's worse, though, is how much running time the movies waste on action scenes that (1) don't drive the plot forward in any way whatsoever, and (2) don't even happen in the books.Ĭonsider Game of Thrones, and how much would be lost if each season of the show (which is based on a single book) was crammed into a 2-hour running time. There is too much that happens in the year to cram into 2 hours. I'm really not a fan of this minimalist approach. Harry is going to Hogwarts just for a quick vacation to play quidditch and get into a couple of adventurous moments. Some of the movies feel like they took place within a single week. In the movies, although many of them show quick montage of time passing, this feeling is really not there at all. This is what makes the early chapters in the "real" world so strong as well - because you really feel Harry's intense desire to return to this magical world and spend a whole other year in it.

In each book, you really sense the passage of time, and it really does feel like each book represents a full school year from start to finish. A two-part film based on the novel is in the works, with part one's release date in November 2010.To me, the movies really don't live up to the books, other than that they do a good job of bringing Hogwarts and the characters to life. Reception to the book was generally positive, although some reviewers found the characters to be repetitive or unchanging. Several awards were given to the novel, including the 2008 Colorado Blue Spruce Book Award, and it was listed as a "Best Book for Young Adults" by the American Library Association. The novel has also been translated into numerous languages, including Ukrainian, Swedish, Polish and Hindi. The previous record, nine million in its first day, had been held by Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. It sold 15 million copies in the first twenty-four hours following its release, including more than 11 million in the U.S. Released globally in ninety-three countries, Deathly Hallows broke sales records as the fastest-selling book ever. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was published in the United Kingdom by Bloomsbury Publishing, in the United States by Scholastic, in Canada by Raincoast Books, and in Australia and New Zealand by Allen & Unwin.
